Worker welfare is about respecting and promoting the rights and welfare of our employees and contractor workforces, in line with the ten Building Responsibly Worker Welfare principles.

This includes respecting fundamental labour rights as defined by the International Labour Organization (ILO) as well as promoting care for people.

This resource provides working definitions, and a summary of key tools and guidance produced by selected external stakeholders on the following topics:

  • Proactive worker engagement to promote workers’ voices as many worker welfare issues are invisible/hard to find
  • Responsible recruitment, including promotion of the ‘employer pays principle’ and routes to remedy for recruitment fees

It is intended to be shared with energy companies’ suppliers, clients and partners to align the industry around definitions and good practices.

For more information on labour rights, refer to the Ipieca labour rights training.
