Launched at UNEA-6, the Beacon projects report showcases projects from UNEP Business and Industry Major Group members, including Ipieca, which demonstrate the role of collaborative action and business-led partnerships to advance sustainability at both local and global levels.
Ipieca insights from the sixth session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-6)
Over 5,500 delegates came together at UNEA-6 around the theme of Effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. Ipieca co-hosted an official virtual side event with Fauna & Flora, IUCN, ICMM and EBRD on ‘Ensuring that the energy transition contributes to a nature and people positive planet’.
Water is used throughout oil, gas and alternative energy project life cycles. Through a combination of good practice, practical tools and a forum for sharing industry knowledge, Ipieca enables the industry to proactively identify potential water risks and to manage this essential resource.
Ipieca was established in 1974 at the request of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to act as the engagement channel between UNEP and the oil and gas industry on environmental and climate issues. Ipieca takes a look back at what it has achieved in the five decades since.
The May round-up showcases members’ commitment to support the local communities where they operate including flood relief support, fund raising for local non-profits, scholarships and internships. We also cover progress on biofuels, nature-based solutions and solar facilities as well as a partnership approach to assist industrial customers’ decarbonisation efforts.
